New K-On! episode to ship with 7th disc!

K-On!’s official website has announced that the 7th Blu-Ray/DVD of the series will include a brand new episode. The new episode has been greenlit and is going into production to be released with the limited edition run of the final volume on January 20th 2010.
I like that the production companies are giving the consumer more incentive to purchase DVDs. But to only include it in a special edition, which I can only assume will be very expensive and possess an extreme resale value. With one hand the publishers are rewarding the fans and with the other they are punishing them. I’m still going to buy it, of course.

K-On! From real life to Anime
In Episode 9 of K-On! Azusa does some soul searching at a local music club. The club she visited seems to be based on a popular music hall in Kyoto. Probably a location that is familiar to one of the animations at Kyoto Animation. Mojo was used to model the fictional music hall Koto in the Anime.

Proof Otaku will buy anything: K-On’s Mio sells $800 headphones
During episode five of K-On! Mio used a pair of audiophile headphones (pictured above) the AKG K701 have begun to sell out at electronics stores all over Japan. Some stores are even using K-On! images and promotional material such as towel and tote bag pre-order tickets to get Otaku to notice the expensive AKGs.
Granted the AKG K701’s are supposed to be a very good set of headphones the fact that fans of Mio are rushing out to spend 79,800 yen ($790) on a pair of headphones because an anime character was using them in a scene that lasted a few seconds seems like an example of a mental disorder rather than fandom. I wouldn’t be surprised if this wasn’t a purposeful product placement either. The show never mentions the model of the headphones or the company name. They just appear casually. The stores probably got wind of the tie in and have used it to their great advantage.
I wonder if I can get a pair for review. I am a “journalist” after all. Hit the jump for pictures of in store promotions featuring K-On! and the AKG K701.
8-bit K-On! Ending theme: Don’t say Lazy
I stumbled across this very good animation on Anime Genesis today. Someone took the time to render the ending credits of K-On! in glorious 8-Bit graphics. There are two versions of the video one has the original song and the second one makes you feel like they just released a K-On! NES game. A prospect that probably made some Otaku get up and go stand in line at their favorite electronics store…. just in case.
To brag a little: In his post Benu laments that the song is not in 8-bit as well. One day back on the job and I’m already ahead of the big guys again!
