It was a very fun and exciting time at AnimeNEXT 2008. Check back soon for photos and videos and a convention report. I’ll be doing it the moment I get a spare minute. Expect pictures of some excellent cosplay, the loot I managed to escape with, and the amazing events that the convention and the fans themselves organized.

What do you want from Convention coverage?

Time Travel is Awesome has already had some convention content from Sakura Con + Part 2 but we plan to bring some coverage from at least three more conventions this summer. What I want to know is, what kind of content do you want from convention coverage? What do you most care about when it comes to conventions that you attended or when you want to grasp the content of a convention that you missed? I plan to bring lots of photos, video (interviews like those above some comedy, some serious), hopefully some interviews, and panel write ups. But I really want to know how I should spend the most time on based on what the community wants to see.

SakuraCon 2008 Part 2: Son of SakuraCon 2008 Part 1

So, what else did I do other than go around and asking a lot of Naruto cosplayers a few questions? Well, there was always the concert featuring Japanese Punk band, ketchup mania. They were really nice in person and I would have done an interview with them, but well… I sort of explained it in the videos. And of course the Ouran High School Host Club Pajama Party. (Really, go buy the manga and read it. It’s very fun and I highly recommend it.) So, without risking the chance of repeating myself, just enjoy the video. Plus, a fun surprise by Penny Arcades own Tycho and Gabe. (Well, their human counterparts at least.)

Fake Edit: One part that wasn’t featured in the videos was me being a panelist at the 4chan panel. I would have filmed parts of it, but I was enjoying myself too much as a panelist. Anyway, there was a SakuraCon attendee that went on in the wonderful career in pornography. (Or in this case, the American equivalent of the cosplay pornography. Don’t get your hopes up, I am not posting this!) The panelist next to me decided it was a good idea to show it (But then again, the panel was rated MA, so the age thing wasn’t the problem.) and several people in the crowd happened to be friends of said attendee got pissed and from what I’ve heard, threatened to sue someone. As the panelist next to me was escorted, a man that many people of the internet should be familiar with shows up.

Enter Big Chris. There is this macro picture floating out there in the internet which consist of a big black Rock Lee doing splits, complete with a urine spot and the macro caption going “You’re awesome!” featured at the bottom… well, that’s him and all I can say is he is the nicest guy you will ever meet. He came in and basically single handedly saved the dying panel with his humour. Big props to Big Chris.

SakuraCon 2008 Part 1

The last time I went into an anime convention, I had to fly from Kentucky to Texas. It wasn’t the traveling that was the problem. (I actually love to travel.) It was paying the plane ticket and time consumed away from home. But, now that I am located in Seattle, there was no problem attending this years SakuraCon. Instead of merely making a photo gallery, I decided to try and make a miniature documentary. And considering it wasn’t really planned ahead of time to do such a project, it ended up with only one question to many Naruto cosplayers.

Combined with limited technology and time limit for YouTube videos, the video was split in two. The original video was 36 minutes long and it is now 20 minutes or so combined. I was thinking of making a No Fillers/Best Of video that took the good parts from both videos in one bite sized viewing pleasure, but that would mean I would have to work more. So, here it is in it’s already cut up glory, enjoy!
